![]() ![]() The only single reservation I have is Carine Roitfeld's dreadful styling around the centre of the book. Still one of the most revered names in fashion, Dior is known today for its unique couture dresses. His work is incredible and sadly this has become his entire Dior opus after his fall from grace last year nevertheless I love him and the book is a magnificent display of his capabilities as a dress maker.Īs for the photography, demarchelier is on form. Dior: New Couture by Patrick Demarchelier (Photographer), Cathy Horyn (Foreword by) Write The First Customer Review From the moment Christian Dior unveiled his famed New Look collection in Paris on February 12, 1947, womens fashion changed forever. There is also an absence of Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan, Giafranco Ferre et al but i imagine this is testimony to (dare I say) Galliano's genius. I do agree that the focus is more on Galliano and there is a lack of Christian Dior's work however this has been explored in other books. The sheer astonishing effort that goes into the couture is reflected here by the size and quality of the book itself, which I would dare say is worth far more than the asking price. Alongside dresses designed by Christian Dior himself, creations by the designers who succeeded him show the continuity of the house’s rich heritage. Dior New Couture is the second volume of photographer Patrick Demarchelier’s sublime portraits of iconic Dior haute couture looks. ![]() Usually you buy these art and fashion books to impress your friends or have a flick through when you have time to kill but this one is so captivating I can spend 10 minutes looking at one dress. It explores the lives of English Earls, their coal miners and housemaids, their friends in politics and high society in other countries, and the toll WWI takes on friends whose countries go to war against each other. The book is the first book in Ken Follet’s Century trilogy. In most cases, it turns out to be a disappointment when you read a book with high hopes that’s why I usually try not to read a book with expectations, but I’m glad to say that this book met most of my expectations. A trusted friend, Shane, recommended this book, so naturally, I had high expectations before reading it. ![]() |
